Fatman Scoop Dies Shortly After Hamden Performance

The life of Isaac Freeman, III aka Fatman Scoop, was cut short during a Hamden, CT performance.

It was  an unfortunate turn of events for the conclusion of the Hamden Summer Concert Series, on Friday, August 30, when headliner, Fatman Scoop, collapsed on stage; was rushed to the hospital and later pronounced dead.

The sad news was confirmed and shared with friends and fans of the “Be Faithful” performer on Facebook via Birch Michael, his tour manager.

The event, that will now be remembered as Scoop’s final performance, was heavily attended by many Hamden and Greater New Haven area residents. The show was a part of the town of Hamden’s summer series, originally scheduled for July 12, but was postponed due to inclement weather.

Video footage shows Fatman Scoop, 53, doing what he was known for best – moving the crowd.

He can then be seen moving from the lower level of the stage to the “main stage,” as described by DJ Binky B, the DJ seen standing on stage with Scoop, in a Facebook Live Video, before reciting his last words to the crowd- -“if you came to party make some noise.”

“At the time I’m just thinking maybe he’s a little exhausted, cause he was tired..” DJ Binky B recalls of the moments immediately following Scoop collapsing on stage. “He looks me right in my eyes, he said ‘Bink just keep the music playing. Keep the music playing Bink.” The 94.3 WYBC FM DJ recalled CPR performed by emcee Ronald “Huggy Bear” Huggins, who also led an emotional community prayer, before realizing “the situation is really really bad.”

UACO sends our condolences to the family and fans of the legend, Fatman Scoop. And our prayers of comfort to those in attendance at his final show.
